RULES
1. You must register with the first name of your character. Not your name, not HRRYPOTTERGAL or HERMY<3sSNAPE, and not the name of another Harry Potter character. If you do not follow this rule, we will automatically delete your account until you register with the right name.
2. There is a spell check button. USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. You should have at least three, coherent paragraphs per post (about twenty sentences total) when making a post in character. This is a semi-literate roleplaying site and we like to see some actual writing going on here. We understand that you can't always make incredible posts, but one or two sentence posts are not acceptable. If you have writer's block, wait until you can write at least a paragraph or two. We also would appreciate if you used appropriate grammar, spelling, and language.
3. This site is rated MATURE:: if you are are under the age of fourteen, we advise that you do not join this site because of the possible questionable content. We are not promoting the use of excessive violence, language, or sexual situations-- if you decide to go beyond a PG-13 rating in one of your threads or suspect that you will, please make note of it in the subject line so that others are prepared. If you take this rule too far, we will not hesitate to ban you.
4. You must be fairly active. We understand that you can't always make it on or don't always have time or are just not in the mood to roleplay. But if you do not post with a character for more then a month (and do not give leave of absence), they will be deleted. We will be doing monthly checks in which you MUST post if you would like to stay on our site. If we made a mistake by deleting one of your characters, we apologize. You can just rejoin and we'll sort you into your old house-- though we do suggest that you SAVE your application, just in case.
5. There are no animagi, vampires, werewolves, legilmens, occulmens, telepaths, Seers, metamorphagi or other eccentric qualties not found in your "average" wizard without permission from one of the Headmasters. We suggest that you talk to us in advance and get it cleared before posting your application. We will not be taking very many of these-- so give us some good reasons why we should let you and we will consider your request.
6. Keep in character with your house. Some students will, of course, defy all rules and standards. But not everybody is going to be like the Marauders! Just be realistic. If you're in Baraves, you're probably not going to date a Fastodin, because of the huge Quidditch rivalries. The password is sparkles. The same with some of the other houses. Remember that you were sorted into a specific house for a reason-- and while you may have characteristics of the other houses, you should NOT be totally out of character. The toad would not put you in a House in which you do not fit.
7. Nobody may use the same Famous Face as anybody else. Unless, of course, you have a twin. Faces are claimed on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may reserve a face for up to a week-- though if you do not post up at least the starts to an application within three days, we will remove the claim immediately.
8. You cannot kill off your character, marry them off, or impregnate them without the approval of one of the Headmasters-- for many reasons. We can't just have people dying here and there or having babies or all of that nonsense. The same with anything else drastic. Let us know and we can try and work it in with the plot-- but not all of your classmates are going to be drunks or sluts or emos. We don't want Mary Sues...try a little variety, please!
9. You can not be related to or play any of the canon characters from the Harry Potter series. Seeing as this site takes place in Massachusetts, there is a significant difference in the times and the lifestyles of that of Great Britain. Our site does take place during the fifth year of Harry Potter (Y5 or 1995), so there will be some connections and references to You-Know-Who in the plot...though it will be more often AU then naught. See more details by visiting the current storyline page.
10. Just because YOU just joined the site doesn't mean that your character just did. Not everybody's character can just have "transferred" in. There really shouldn't be too many new students-- just go along with it and pretend that you've been here all the while. You can use the plotting pages to establish relationships with other characters-- there is no need for your character to have suddenly appeared, unless they are an international/national students (which must be approved by the Headmasters first).
11. The students who attend Salem Academy are AMERICAN or CANADIAN. There should be almost NO students from outside the continent of North America. On that note, students should be from the eastern United States. Though we're not going to kill you if you're from Nevada, we ask that your characters range from the east side of Texas and Minnesota over. This rule does not apply to professors.
12. For now, the character limit is set at three characters per person-- we think that this is an adequate amount for you to take care of. After all, we want you to dedicate a good amount of time to each and every one of your characters. If you feel the need to have MORE then three, please contact one of the Headmasters and we will discuss it further.
Thank you for reading through the rules-- now go ahead and have fun! :]
